RISHIKESH -MY TRAVELOGUE PART 2

This blog post is about my trip to Rishikesh taken about 3 years back sometime in October for a short duration of 2 days and one night, before we headed back to Dehradun. The city also known as the yoga capital of India and is located about 40 Kms away from the capital town of Dehradun on the foothills of northern India. It is particularly famous for its religious background among masses and attracts a lot of foreign crowd as well, because of its Yoga Centres.

I facilely visited the non-religious parts of the city on local transport and foot and resided in a pre-made tent on the banks of Ganga. I also tried river rafting which is among the popular sports and activities which is an astounding experience for a swimmer who was allowed to jump in the fresh waters of the river (in safety zones).Adventure sports have always been exhilarating and thrilling, it gives you an adrenaline rush and pushes you beyond your limits.

The city has a chaotic charm with its crowd which ranges from all kinds of cultural and social economic background interested in their own religious deeds. A few of the things that left me astonished were, dedicated devotees signing and dancing on the streets who were completely engrossed in their chanting. Another interesting observation was the open sale and consumption of marijuana in the streets and stores. Amidst the crowd Rishikesh has a lot of themed restaurants and cafes which are mostly located on the higher side of the river bank with an amazing view. One such café we came across was the Freedom Café where we had our last meal before we departed which as the name suggests was a paradise for marijuana users with the perfect ambiance and its organic nature. The low-level floor seating and wooden tables completed its appearance all together.

The best part about budget travelling is pushing your comfort zones and exploring raw content as you glide. Sharing a few pictures from a three year old travel story.
